How to Prevent a Cavity

Posted .

As you probably know, there are a number of things you’ll have to do to protect your oral health. For instance, we generally suggest scheduling an appointment with our team every six months. These appointments are important since they give our team an opportunity to inspect your pearly whites for signs of trouble. We also suggest scheduling these appointments because they give us a chance to address any issues we spot before they become more serious. For instance, have you heard you should address a cavity before it becomes too severe?

Unaddressed cavities can actually cause a number of issues, including frequent toothaches or pain when you eat. Cavities can also spread to the middle of pearly white, which could need root canal therapy to address. If you treat your cavity quickly enough, you can usually avoid the need for this treatment.

While our team will be happy to inspect your mouth for cavities when you visit us, you could recognize tooth decay on your own. If this happens, we recommend contacting us before it becomes more serious. A hole or black spots in your teeth might be an indicator of a cavity. However, please note that cavities usually form near the back of your mouth, which could make it difficult to notice these visible symptoms. This is why pain is usually easier to spot than holes.
